Book Detail
National Geographic has long been part of Everest's history-the first American ascent of Everest was put together by National Geographic and featured Barry Bishop from our staff. When the tragedy of 1996 occurred we decided it was time for NGS to produce a book about Everest. I was Photography editor of the book, which started with the lure of the mountain, the history of those that attempted to climb it, and a look at the successes and tragedies that had occurred over the years. The book also featured large-format IMAX images made by David Breashears while he was part of a team taking an IMAX camera to the top of the world. The IMAX team ended up rescuing members of the Rob Hall/Scott Fisher expeditions and included a first-hand account in the book.
